It’s in Glass!

On March 16, 2008, in Brew Pubs, Craft Beer, Family and Friends, Homebrewing, by Mark Ranes

The Blue Flame Imperial IPA is in a carboy! I hit my temps exactly, but misjudged how much wort to collect. I boiled for an hour before the first hop addition, so it is a bit darker that originally planned. Should be a very nice ale, though. The OG was 1.096, so it should be a big beer. I pitched a very healthy 1400 ml starter, made with two vial of White Labs WLP001 Cal Ale yeast. It is very actively fermenting 30 hours later, but surprisingly, it hasn’t come out of the blow-off tube.

Dinner at Valley Brewing was good. I was hoping they would have their Uberhoppy IPA, but we had to settle for their regular IPA, Cobra Hood IPA – but it was very good:) To top off the evening, the Thunder won the hockey game.

Probably the highlight of the day was several very nice beers that Eric brought back from his recent trip to Washington DC, to share with me! What a guy:) . He brought two Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPAs, one 120 Minute IPA, and one World Wide Stout (an Imperial stout that comes over 18% ABV!) and two bottles of Bell’s Hopslam Ale. I have a new definition of a true friend – one who packs bubble wrap in his suitcase so he can bring home quality beer 3000 miles to share with his buddy. Thanks, Eric! Eric was gracious enough to leave an additional 90 Minute IPA and a Hopslam to share with Stephen:)

Imperial Ales

Since we were having an Imperial ale kind of day, I broke out two ales I had. Firestone Union Jack IPA and Sam Adams Imperial Pilsner.

I’m hoping this batch of Blue Flame IPA2 is at least as good, if not better, than the first. Time will tell…
